president joe biden is meeting with groups including the nra this week as part of president obama's task force to find solutions to the epidemic. the nra said it's "sending a rep to see what they have to say." my, that's big of them. other gun fans are having their say on the internet. they're promoting gun appreciation day to be held on january 19th. gun activists are being urged to turn out at gun stores, ranges and gun shows from coast-to-coast. we'll have a commentary on that later in the show. and if talk show host alex jones is with them, let's hope someone brings his meds. last night jones had what is now an iconically famous screaming fit which was rudely interrupted by piers morgan trying to ask questions about gun control. here's part of what alex jones had to screech. >> 1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms. it doesn't matter how many you get out there on the street begging for them to have their guns taken. we will not relinquish them. do you understand? >> john: only too well, sir. you need help. i'm joined by nancy bowman, a nurse on the scene in tucson

crisis. and president obama is expected to make the final touches to his second term economic team today. cnbc's john harwood has more on the changes coming to the u.s. treasury department. >> president obama has already filled out the members of his national security team for the second term. now he's filling out the economic term for a second term including his choice for treasury secretary. later today, we expect the president is going to appoint his current white house chief of staff jack lou as current treasury secretary. jack lew is a veteran of capitol hill and of more than one big major budget negotiations which is exactly what the president is facing right now. he's somebody with a low key demeanor who gets along well with others. his confirmation is expected to be not too difficult. what he doesn't provide is a strong business background or wall street ties, although he did work for citigroup for a while and he doesn't have the experience in financial regulation that tim geithner brought to the job having head of the federal reserve bank of new york during the financial crisis.
